Most days students will see me (Teacher Jen) at the door as they enter the Preschool wing. If you notice that there are a few days that I’m not there to say, “Good Morning” I am probably at my other job as an Outdoor School Director.
For many years, I have been coordinating and directing Outdoor School programming for multiple schools in the Willamette Valley. This is something I love very much. Most of my programs are residential – meaning that students go to a specific site and stay overnight for up to one week. Students will travel through a variety of lessons learning about animals, soil, water and plants/trees. All lessons happen outdoors – rain or shine. I train high school students as cabin leaders, college students as field study instructors, schedule informal educators from places like ODFW, OSU, Starker Forests, etc. I work with school district administrators and teachers to build Outdoor School programming that is relevant and meaningful for their student populations. It’s a cool job and I get to work with so many incredible educators from all over Oregon. One of my favorite educators to work with is a parent here at Sandcastle Preschool!
So, there will be times where I will not be at the door to say, “Good Morning.” But I will return and be thankful to see each of your faces after spending multiple days with 6th graders…who are also quite awesome but sometimes carry a bit more attitude.
