Sandcastle Preschool est. 1985

Founding Director & Teacher: Barbara Bunch

Sandcastle Preschool was established in 1985 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit preschool program for children ages three to five. The first year, the program consisted of two classrooms, one lead teacher in each, and six students per room. Over the next several years as enrollment increased, a classroom was added and sessions were expanded to meet the needs of the growing program.

Eventually, the program changed its age requirement and children ages 2.5+ were accepted. For many years, Sandcastle enjoyed weekly visits with Grace Center participants who were utilizing the church building until they moved to a new facility. It was an exciting addition to the program when the outdoor play area was constructed in collaboration with Grace Center and Grace Lutheran Church. Today, Sandcastle Preschool has three classrooms and six session options. Each classroom includes a head teacher and an assistant.

After 36 years of outstanding directorship, “Teacher Barb” announced her retirement. When she isn’t traveling with her husband in their swanky camper van, Teacher Barb continues to support Sandcastle Preschool. She has built and maintained one of best preschool programs in the area and the commitment to continue that legacy is strong.
